Reclaimed American Chestnut Wood Barn Door

Our client said "go big" - so we went big! Home. Reclaimed. was asked for a special (oversized) sliding barn door to block off a hallway. The door needed to be 4.5 ft. wide by nearly 8 feet tall. We were inspired by the wood species of furniture in their home. We found the perfect complement; we located beams of outstanding reclaimed American Chestnut in Pennsylvania. The wood had gone extinct in the US in the early 1900s due to a blight.

The slow inner arches of the door play off arches and architectural curves in the home. A true challenge of our woodworking skills. The privacy panels are produced by hand by Indian women making wood shavings and dying them.
